Hovsund has been used as a harbour for fishingboats for more than 100 years. In the early 1900s, many fishermen came from near and far during high season, and Hovsund had its own bakery and liquor store. Even though the golden days are over, even today many fishing boats use it as a safe harbour during the winter season, due to its strategic placement on the north side of Lofoten. Hovsund is also surrounded by fish racks for drying fish, so from February to May, you can enjoy this view, and even watch how it gets up there, and how it gets down.
